Default HS SB Finished!

I am glad I did this mod, thanks to Vans Aircraft for identifying a possible problem here and giving us a rather simple fix!

Bret,

could you post a picture of the other side of the spar?

This was before reinstalling HS 404 and HS 405. I remeved 13 rivets in on each end, each side of the rear spar for more room to use a straight cup set.

Looks like you can get to all the rivets with a sneezer. So can you do the entire mod alone or need someone to help buck rivets?

Bret, I too finished mine today, yours looks a little easier since you lifted up so much skin to make access.

I noticed that you like me do not have the nice rivet spacing that Van's drawing shows, mine looks identical to yours.

Now to get the rivets touched up.
Will post pictures tomorrow.

Default Completed SB

I too completed the HS SB this weekend. Took 8 hours from start to finish over 2 days. Made somewhat easier as I don't have any paint on it and had not mounted it. The best assistive device was making some v-blocks to hold it upright. I used those for most of it including the drilling of the angle rivets and the riveting of the doubler.

Added the notches per the bulletin. I had no notches during the initial build.

Tapering the spar flanges was fun! Glad Vans gave us the tip to use the stainless sheet in-between the layers of skin. Was fairly easy with a dremel tool.

All Done!
