Default Wing tip lighting

Starting work on my wingtips and have two questions. First, what is the preferred size screw to attach the clear wing tip cover, the kit comes with #8 nutplates, but these seem too big? Second, preferred method for attaching nav lights. Go all the way with a bonded in metal backing plate with nutplates or just drill the tip and use screws with nyloc nuts?

I just read an article that estimates that four out of five hours of building is actually consumed by planning, and looking for parts and tools!

I drilled my nav lights into the tips and used screws and nuts. Need to have removeable wing tips for this, anchor nuts if permanent tips.
