Default Gear in accessory case

I just took off my vacuum pump from the accessory case on my O-360. Just wondering if it is ok to remove the gear that is in there and leave it out for good before putting on the new cover plate?

Thanks for any help,
Matt

Either leave the gear in or remove the adapter housing and gear. Don't leave the adapter on without a gear.

Default Adapter housing

What would happen if I left the adapter housing on without the gear?

There's an oil hole to lube the gear drilled in the adapter. No gear means pressure oil squirting into the empty shaft hole.

Default Blow out

Will it find its way out the breather tube or where does the oil go because I have noticed way more oil on the belly after flight

It will result in some loss of oil pressure and volume to the engine guts and will drain out of the shaft hole. Might get whipped around by the cam and mag gears and out the breather.
