Default Gapping plugs

OK, this is probably a really stupid question, but here goes...

I have the Champion gap tool with wires marked as .015, .018, .019 and .022.

So...how do you set the gap for *.016*? That is, from everything I can discern, the smallest allowable gap for the plugs.

FWIW, I gapped mine to .018 (.018 wire passes through barely, some slight resistance, .019 does not), which is well within the allowable range. But I'd like to gap them smaller if that is, according to conventional wisdom, better.

You could give them just s light ?tiny, eeenie weenie squeeze more but you do not want to go too far.

The idea is that you want the 0.015" wire to sail though, and the 0.018" to not. They are a GO-NO GO gauge.

If you are scared, leave them at 0.018 and in 50 hours go again.

Thanks...that's what I was planning on doing, but it's nice to have confirmation that it's okay. I just wonder why the manufacturer of the stupid things doesn't provide a gauge with the correctly sized wires? I still have the little set of feeler gauges I used to use on cars a lifetime ago when one could change the plugs and points, and it has a gazillion tabs for all different gaps so you don't have to guess.
