Default DAR Shortage

My DAR has lost his function 46 (home built aircraft) authority because the Kansas City MITO has been unable or unwilling to schedule the ground school required to maintain certification.

I have checked the current DAR list for Missouri, there is not a single function 46 DAR on the list.

My next option is the STL FSDO. I have a request in for an appointment to have them do the inspection. We shall see what comes of it.

The DAR recurrency class for FC 46, 47, and 48 is now available online.

The MIDO doesn't need to schedule it. It's the responsibility of the DAR, and required every 3 years.

Thanks. I have a query in to the STL FSDO and will wait for their response after the holidays.

Thanks to you Mel, for the info on the refresher courses being online. I have passed that on to my local DAR, he may not have been aware of it if it is a recent development.

I did find 3 function 46 DAR's in Missouri after noticing there are 2 lists, one for manufacturing and one for maintenance, but it appears there are none within the STL FSDO area which is the eastern half of Missouri. The local FSDO has indicated they would like to have my DAR work for them and he is in the process of transferring from the MKC MIDO but it is slow going so far.

Yes the online thing is very recent.
Switching from a MIDO to a FSDO can be very time consuming and it may not help much. Technically every "Original" airworthiness inspection must be approved by the local MIDO even if done by a FSDO DAR. It can get complicated.

Also, a DAR from outside the area can come do your inspection with approvals. I've never had a problem going anywhere over the past 14 years.

David, sounds like there is an opportunity for you to become a DAR...?

When I read the title of the thread, I thought you were calling Mel short....
