Default Which Side Up?

One would think after 200 hours of build time, I would find myself not questioning my expanding builder knowledge, or lack of, as many times I do. Most of the time I can find my answer here, or looking at other build sites.

So with that said, after a extended building session is holiday weekend, and getting the right elevator of my -8 project ready to rivet the skin on. For the 12 470AD4-4 rivets that fastens the elevator horn, WD-605-R-1 to the Spar, E-702, does it really matter which side the head of the rivet goes on? Rivet head against the elevator horn or against the Spar?

What I did not state at first is that I already have it riveted together with the "shop" end on the Spar. So after searching the site I found my answer, it seems it is procedure to have the shop end on the side of the thickest material. So do I chance drilling 12 rivets out and turning them around? And when it comes time for the left side do I match the right side or set them the other way?

Normally the head of the rivet goes to the thickest material, not the shop head, but that is just a general rule. To clarify, the shop head of a rivet is the one that is formed during the installation. You are ok in either direction.

factory head should go against the thinnest material, shop head, which has the smaller diameter ''head'' goes against the thickest.

I see no need to drill out what you have done. Build on.
