Default Wing Stand Questions

Is it OK to hang a wing in a cradle type structure before the fuel tank is in place? In other words, have the wing nose down and support wing on both ends with little support in the middle. I have the top skin on and the outboard leading edge on at this point. I have it temporarily in this state now while I rivet the top leading edge. I plan to hang it this way while I work on the other wing.

I was planning on mounting on a wall then boarding it over to protect it. Is it better to have the wing on a rolling cart? I can always make one later.

Thanks
Ken

The RV7 and 9 plans show an image of a wing stand. It supports the inboard part of the wing via the spar stub, not the leading edge. Your 14 plans may be similar. So, you can do as you proposed.

Secondarily, there is nothing magic about wing stand design. Make it to fit your situation. In my case, I added nests for the H-stab inbetween the two wings on my rolling stand. If I have been a little more inventive, I probably could have include the V-Stab too.

I did not see any images of a wings stand in the plans. I could have missed it.

My wings lived in this wing stand supported by the spar stub and a cradle under the second rib from the tip for about a year while I built the fuselage.

I suggest dropping a bolt through the spar stub on each side of the support to keep it from dropping off when you move it around. Don't ask me how I know...

A diagram for this stand was included in the plans for the RV-8, I don't know about the -14...

I built my RV-10 wings stands from the following plans:

They worked quite well. For the other models, I suspect all you need to do is shorten the length a bit.

what about hanging before the tanks are attached? THe top skin is in place, so I assume that should keep any sagging from occurring.
