Default Radio White Noise

I have interesting issue with white noise on my radio. During most phases of flight there is no issue but when I take off and reach about 100 feet in altitude I get white noise on the radio. It does not carry over when transmitting and goes away when ever the radio is receiving but returns when the transmission stops. Once I get about 5 miles from the city the noise goes away. I have asked the tower if anyone else has noticed this problem and they have no reports. I have flown my other airplane and do not get the same noise. The radio involved is an ICOM 210. suggestions?

Sounds like you need to adjust the squelch.

Any powerful radio/tv transmitting towers close by? Sometimes these hi power transmission towers will break the squelch.

Default Thanks Mel

You were right. I had not adjusted squelch since installation of the radio. There are a lot of high power radio stations in the area. Problem solved. Thanks again.
