Just keep it out of the mags, alternator and starter. Rinse with ordinary water and dry off with paper towels and an air hose.

Default Mineral Spirits

I use a pressure wand every time I do an oil change, whether I've splattered some oil or not. Most times just let evaporation take care of the floor. I don't bother to cover anything, but I don't spray into the intake. I also use a small pressure bottle when I'm doing small work. Great tools.

I use a clean towel. Never had a need for anything else, but I inspect often and my engine doesn't leak. Makes it easy to find problems.

Varsol? Where do you get Varsol these days? I used to buy it 5 gal at a time back in the '60s, but then it just plane disappeared from the market.

Same here. Sometimes use a bit of Stoddard solvent on the rag.

Varsol is just a high quality Paint Thinner.

For our cleaning application super high purity is probably not required -
