So what's the deal with this place? Missed the Fly-In this year, but can anyone land there any time to hike the trails or just have a quiet picnic?

Tom, according to Airnav, permission is required prior to landing.
They also hold a huge RC model airplane/helicopter championships there.

The place is amazing, and they have a website with all the contact info. Dont forget they have a Facebook page as well.They do have a few different "events" throughout the year, with the big R/C meet in the spring, and the big fly-in late summer. I think you will find, it is open year round and there is a pretty cool private museum, as well as trails, ect. Make sure you mark your calendar for next year ! Also the SC Breakfast club usually has a meeting early summer every year..check their calendar too.
