Default Eagle's Nest - Inspiring the Community

EN_03 Display at Clear Springs HS Open House 9/18

EN_03 Space Center Rotary Meeting 9/23
by invitation of CCISD Superintendent, Dr. Greg Smith

<stay tuned... more to come>

Eagle's Nest Projects are much more than just a group of kids building an airplane at a local airport -
Eagle's Nest Projects is a fully accredited high school level STEM education program with dual-credit offered at most campuses through partnerships with PLTW, local colleges, and Embry-Riddle. All projects, exclusively the Van's Aircraft ELSA RV-12, are built within the high school campus, during class periods, and every build-student is eligible to receive 20 hours free flight instruction in the aircraft they built.

What truly sets Eagle's Nest apart from similar programs is how they engage and inspire virtually every student at the school, their parents, and the community at large.

Student and School Pride - At various times during the build process, 'under construction' and finished components are displayed throughout the school together with many of the tools used to construct the parts and a brief description of the process. Students on other pathways, Speech, Journalism, Graphic Arts, etc., are also encouraged to participate by providing their specialized talents to the benefit of the project.

Engaging Parents and Family Members - Special displays are provided throughout the school at all 'parent' functions. Parents and family members of all students are invited to the shop area to "drive a rivet" and learn more about what's going on at 'their' school.

Engaging the Community at Large - During the construction process, build-students take 'under construction' parts, tools, and video of work sessions to meetings at local service clubs throughout the community. For campuses with a completed a project, their completed aircraft is displayed at all major school functions and regularly at local businesses and air shows. Build-students are always on-hand to answer questions and visitors are encouraged to sit in the aircraft for photo ops.

Eagle's Nest Projects are a source of student, family, and community pride! Every project has a conservative potential to touch 3,000 or more individuals.

With new projects in Florida, North Dakota, Virginia, and another there at Clear Springs HS, there are more chances that you can see a project in action. Working out all the details keeps us very busy, but we like nothing more than showing the students at work. Ernie would agree--the students are the inspiration here.

Let Ernie or I know if you would like to sponsor all or part of a project, or are interested in buying a finished aircraft. The quality of the work is excellent as many of you saw at Sun N Fun and Oshkosh. EN-3 (the plane shown here) will also be at AOPA Summit. Look us up!

Great work, Ernie!

Great program and a credit to all involved. I'd love to see it happening in Australia, but the additional costs involved (exchange rate, tax, freight), and possibly our different educational systems would probably make it hard to get off the ground. How many EN projects have been started so far?

Thank you for the kind words and for acknowledging credit to "all involved". At Eagle's Nest we're a team, "all involved", and our every success has been the result of team effort and hard work. Our team, "all involved", includes students, mentors, parents, high schools, colleges, educators, businesses, various organizations, foundations, and YOU. Thank you for your support and encouragement.

How many Eagle's Nest Projects started so far? In less than three years, here's the list:

Eagle's Nest Projects - Completed and under construction:
Florida (1), Indiana (3), North Dakota (1), Texas (2), Virginia (1)

Excellent way to develop teamwork, and a sense of Pride in students. And----having a plane in front of your school that the students built is wayyy cool.
Tom

Wish our schools would do something like this -

Pride and teamwork are two of our four objectives, The other two are Leadership and Craftsmanship. We define Pride as Personal Responsibility In Daily Effort.
