Default Cowling Hole Diameter

I have combed the prints, Dwg 45, and looked
on the forum.
Is there a set diameter for the hole behind the spinner
on the pink cowling?
If so where do you measure?

This is what I have to start with, do I need to do most of the trimming on the bottom?
It looks like more than an inch needs to come off the bottom, is that OK?

Mine was definitely not circular on the inner edges of the spinner hole. I marked a consistent depth and then trimmed it to make it look nice.

Bert,
I don't think the hole size is very important only that it comes out round. Yours is oval. I measured the side width and then cut the lower cowl so that the height matched. If you have your spinner you can us it to determine the size of the outsie of the boss.
On my project I did no trimming on the upper cowl. All the extra meat was on the lower. That includes at the front and along the sides. Cut a little at a time and don't over do it. You will still have filling and shaping to do after you get it fitted to the fuselage.

Default You Bet

Thanks Brian, I have about wore it out...subscribed to the thread.
Using newspaper instead of phone book.
Problem now, when cowl centered on fake spinner, right side of top cowl
does not go as far back as the left side at the firewall. Engine offset?..
Ain't cutting nothing until I understand why.
Really appreciate the help Brian.
