Default alternator relay question

I am rewiring my airplane and the builder put a relay in the alternator circuit.

I have a battery relay, a starter relay and an alternator relay. This is the first time I have run across a relay in the charging circuit. Anybody know why or if this is a good idea? Maybe a good reason but it seems to complicate the system, looking for input.

thanks,

Steve

I have one. I followed the B&C wiring diagram using an internally regulated alternator and the B&C over voltage protector module.
