Cowling and Baffle Questions

I am getting started on the cowling on my 9A.
The manual says to cut the slot in the bottom cowling just wide enough
for the nose gear leg. The plans say cut the slot 1 3/8" so the nose gear
fairing will fit. Is it ok to cut that at the start?
Baffles...the baffles were already installed on the engine when I bought
the project. Ramps in front not finished and no trimming on top of baffles.

So fitting the top cowling is a little different for me.
What is the best way to trim the top of the baffles to get the top cowling
in the right position. I do have a plywood spinner bulkhead with the 2 1/4"
spacers in place. I will have a CS prop and manual said to use 2 1/4" spacer.
So ANY suggestions and help is greatly appreciated.
From reading, and my eyes are wore out, it seems there is only 4588 ways
to do the cowling. Ask me if my brain is scrambled, enough to drive a man to drink.

Forgot to ask, I had seen some dressed up pin holders. I am talking about the tab that goes on
The end of the cowling side hinges, screws to cowling while holding the pin.
Help appreciated

You really need to take off the baffles to get the cowling fitted first.

Cut the slot for the nosewheel a bit longer than the plans indicate. It makes it much easier to get it in place with the spinner bulkhead in place.
