Used one of these on a custom made ACS throttle cable and it works perfectly. Actually forgot it was on there until this post.

The groove in the cable is 1/8" so I cut the slot in a chunk of 1/8" bar stock with a couple safety wire holes to keep the cable in place. Bolt the bar stock piece to the rest of the support. Done.

The slotted bracket version looks like it would work. I fabricated a pair of brackets from a piece of 1/8" x 3/4 x 3/4 angle.
