Question JPI FS-450 and Garmin 296/396 interface help

Just got back from the first flight with my new JPI FS-450. The unit works great, however this technically challenged person is having one heck of a time getting it to interface with my Garmin 296.

I think that the Garmin has to have the "COM1" and "COM2" tabs set up, but I'm not sure what setting to use.

Also, the JPI has 9 choices for Communications format and I'm not sure which one to use.

Anyone got the same setup in their plane that can give me any hints?
