Default what size replacement brake lines?

Im confused. Im looking to replace the Van's supplied lines with teflon braided Aeroquip lines (made up in the UK). It seems the most popular replacement lines are size 3 with AN3 fittings, however, all my fittings are AN4. Is it better to use the heavier size 4 line with my AN4 fittings or use adaptors?thxs

David

Default Brake lines

I replaced the plastic brake lines on my RV-4 with Aeroquip -3 braided teflon and am very satisfied with that setup. I did put heat shrink over the lines to reduce the abrasion chances.

On the R-12 that I am building I am going to use teflon -3 lines made by TS Flightlines. Their lines have a plastic coating over the braid.

Hi David

Use AN816 fittings in the Brakes. You can use the NPT thread for the brake fittings, and an AN3 (or even AN2) hose.

My "research" from a UK motor racing source was that F1 trialled AN2 size hose, but found the benefits not worthwhile. Size 3 as you say probably best.

Most of the brake hoses I build are -4. Jay Pratt uses some -3 in the -8's he builds.
