Question Side stick control?

OK, this might take way too much engineering, but has anyone attempted to put the control on the side? I would like to remove the stick from my lap!

Van looked at it for the RV-10, but decided that there was not enough room along the sides of the aircraft for all of the pushrods. Not to mention the huge added complexity.

Why not put it in the center and put a Y at the top similar to the Zenair's? The throttle can go on the left so you won't have anything between your legs.
