Default First trip to Johnson Creek

Whole Picasa album is here:
[HERE you go. dr]

My first time ever to visit Johnson Creek in Idaho and thought I'd share some photos from the trip.

Didn't take too many photos on the trip on the way up that turned out too well, too much sunlight glare off the canopy... but here's an interesting one showing how desolate it is across vast swaths of southern Wyoming.

Three thirsty RVs line up at the watering hole in Preston, ID.

Everybody grabs a photo of this nice little kitty-cat in the McCall FBO. ROWRRR!

This looks like it could have been on kitty's lunch menu.

Finally got there Thursday evening. My new "best picture of your RV sitting on the ground" photo!

Camp is now set up.

End part 1, continued....

Looking forward to the pics and report!

My first trip there was last year, it was an incredible experience.

My flying buddies were supposed to land there today from North FL via an overnight in Longmont, but weather caused them to reschedule so they are spending a couple of days in the absolute and otherworldly beauty of Monument Valley. Hopefully the weather will clear and they can head up to JC, West Fork Lodge, Meadow Creek, Smiley Creek, and the other places that we all enjoy so much.

Default part 2

What a gorgeous view up the valley towards the approach end of the runway

The famous bench in front of the webcam

It sure got cold quick when the sun went down. My friends John and Rick warming up by the campfire.

Next day was too low ceilings to fly anywhere in the morning, so we had to hike up to the famous Warm Springs bathtub.

Now that's a big rock!

Saw some wildlife along the trail.

Reached my body's service ceiling before getting to the bathtub and had to stop and rest a while. What a view!

Default part 3

Made it to the tub finally!

There were more than a few obstacles along the trail

The U-tree ???

We weren't the only RV'ers there

But we were the only RVs parked together.

Temps were in the upper 20's in the mornings, a campfire is a must to get warmed up for the day.

Breakfast of champions??? (nope, we religiously obey 8 hours bottle to throttle)

Morning IFR in the valley... no day trips until it burns off.

Default part 4

Finally get a day trip to another strip... some scenes along the way to Stanley for lunch.

Stanley, ID and a new freind I made in front of the bakery/restaurant after I gave him a piece of my hamburger.

John getting ready to depart for home in his RV-4

Rick in his RV-8 off my wing on the way out of the mountains of Idaho

I trust my engine, I trust my engine, I trust my engine, I trust my engine......

More pics leaving for home

Rick and his RV-8 at refueling stop in Gooding, ID. Cheap fuel there.

Great Salt Lake off my right wing

Signs that things are about to get rough.... very rough.

Rick off my left wing

Bear Lake off my right wing

Southern Wyoming is stilll filled with wide desolate areas.

More pics in the whole album here. I've got more to keep adding to the album over the next day or so.

I can't wait to fly up there again and hope to stay longer next time.

That was us!

I was lucky to get the "front row seat" parking spot in front of the webcam
