Two rattle cans to prime a VS?

Hi,
I have just primed insides of my vertical stabilizer (spars, ribs, doublers, and skin). I have used almost two rattle cans of primer! That seems excessive. Is it or os this normal use?

This seems excessive to me. It should just need a thin coat for protection. It may end up better protected your way, but will add a lot of weight. I don't know that I'd undo it, but try going thinner on future parts.

However when i made one pass I could easily see aluminum through. The surface became rather coarse. I thought it wasn't enough, so I did a second pass and then some touch ups. The surface is now solid grey and smooth.
I used SW GBP 988.
So if I can see aluminum through, is that still enough?

I always understood that you should still be able to see the writing (inked stamps) on the aluminum through the primer, otherwise you have too much. That's the way I did mine and I have been flying for 9 years with no corrosion issues whatsoever. Our climate here can be very humid with temps going from -40F through +100F (normal range -20F to +85F).
