10 minutes to Catastrophe

I was visiting my local A&Ps shop today. He had a 172 in for maintenance and showed me what he discovered, unrelated to the work he was to perform.

Based on the depth of the “cuts” he estimated that fuel would start spraying all over the engine with an almost guaranteed FIRE within 10 minutes.
And yes, this motor had the proper standoffs per the Lycoming AD 2011-26-04. The outermost adel clamp on cylinder #2 had been forced to the rear by an external force.

For anyone with Fuel Injection, check your lines any time your cowl is off to ensure they have not been deformed in some way resulting in something similar.

good catch

Wow!! That's a good catch ... and good advice. I'd hang onto that A&P.
