gas cap and paint

so.... I'm painting the pieces of an 8 and getting ready to paint the wings. Do the gas caps get painted? What have some of you done? Thanks for the thoughts

Polish them

On my RV-6, I originally painted my gas caps but they quickly got chipped and beat up. So then I just stripped the paint off and took them to the polishing wheel. Now they are a shiny polished aluminum, very attractive and low maintenance (not to mention inexpensive).

Just like Jordan, I originally painted them. They get chipped no matter how delicately you handle them.
Now they are polished!

Tip:
My painter suggested stopping the wing paint
about 1/10" back from the filler opening so it
doesn't chip. With unpainted fuel caps, you
don't even see the small unpainted ring
around the opening.
