Governor for MTV-12

I have a newly overhauled Woodward Governor (from Redline Aviation in Akron, CO - https://redlineaviation.aero/) set to 300 psi relief valve pressure but Peter Marshal from MT Props in Deland, FL says they set the MT governor relief pressure at 320 psi. He commented that 300 psi for my MTV-12 with an IO-360 M1B:

“300 should be no problem, sometimes we see the Hartzells and some older Woodwards down around 275 which sometimes causes surging. It more of a problem on older engines that have a higher leakage rate at the main bearing.”

Don’t want to put on the governor then have to take it off to modify for 320 psi in case it does cause a problem.

Deeper than my prop governor knowledge, any thoughts?

Governor pressure

The standard setting for lycoming 360 is 320 psi.
320 psi is 21,7 bar.
300 psi is 20,4 bar.
This is a small 6% difference.
Unless the engine is very old, in bad condition and you are running on
thin and hot oil, dirty oil filter, you will be safe with your governor setting.

Good luck
