Wheel Pant Jig

Fitting the PR pants to my -6, I found the smooth aero shape rather frisky, if not downright unruly when wrestling on a flat table top. Dolly to the rescue. Seven bucks at Harbour Freight puts you back in charge of the conversation. Caster direction anchors pant, or allows freedom of movement. Enjoy.

Duly noted, as the wheel pant fabrication is approaching and I have two of those very dollies in my garage. Thanks for the tip!

Holding Wheel Pant

Im at that point myself. Are you able to forward me a link to that dolly at Harbour Fr?

Thanks

Greets Tim,
Sorry about the delay; I’ve been busy trying to escort a little love into the new year. So, Happy New Year, 2021 to all our RV Buds and Budettes!

I’m not at the shop, but I can tell you that these are the puny dollies and may be in the range of 10”or 12”-ish by maybe 14”-ish. Too large, and the pant would contact the table and re-start round three of the cage fight.

Now iffin’ you really wanted to be king of this hill, you could just grab some casters - preferably urethane locking ones, and fit them up to the right sized plywood blank and I would immediately be outclassed; which is not a foreign place for me. And you could share it when you are done, with the next guy or gal ready to itch fiberglass in bed at night. Of course, there goes the project timing again into the weeds as we again become distracted by options to do things better than necessary. Harbor Freight. Seven bucks.

Let me know if you need me to measure them.

Pants, fixtures and and paint booth

Hello Mike

I found some here but they are $40.00 cdn plus tax. But I do have some rubber type casters from another project that has been on the back burner so I will utilize these. The wheels are lockable so should be good.

I have my fixture built to hold the wheel pant in place for the alignment so this will make the job easier on the other end.

I picked up some metal tubing from an old portable garage for $70 and a roll of 500 sq ft of 6mm plastic for my paint/primer booth in the hanger and that's almost done,

The prep and getting everything ready is probably 70% of it.

Thanks

Tim
