Just saying….you don’t need a ski tube in an RV-6 to carry a pair of 174’s….
1) Yes, this makes it a one-person transport … but then again, you don’t have the payload for two people (in ski gear), boots, helmets, poles, etc. anyway if you want to stay below gross.
2) You need to remove the passenger stick!
3) CAREFULLY secure the tails of the skis so as not to interfere with the rudder pedals - in this case, we have the old style pedals, with a tube running across the floor, and the tails notch in between the floor and the tube, allowing rudder tube rotation without interference.
4) Removing the seat back makes it all even better - the skis rest on the cross-bar structure, can be secured to the structure with a strap, and you could probably get 200’s in there. The limitation is actually what will fit through the opening provided by the tip-up.
Not going to do this on a regular basis, but as a once-in-awhile thing, it works! And a lot easier than engineering a ski tube…..
