changing jet from 10-4164 into 10-3878

I have very old 10-4164 and much newer 10-3878.
Can I transplant the nozzle/jet from the 4164 into the 3878?
Will the 3878 now become a rich 4164 carb with the addition of the new jet?
Anyone know if this works ?

Thanks

Max

You could, but there are other differences between the two carbs that you still wouldn’t have. If you are wanting to make it into a richer carburetor I would recommend that you get the Mooney mod kit that comes with the nozzle and everything else to mod the carburetor to be a 10–4164.
I did that on my own airplane and I’m very happy with the result.

The info is in Scott's linked-to post but for ease of locating:

+1. I did the Mooney mod on my 3878 as well. Works great. You not only change the nozzle but also the size of the port for the economizer cct to get the extra fuel during WOT operation. If I remember correctly there are two different port sizes depending on the 3878 casting. They give you a drill bit in the kit to enlarge the port to the correct size for the restrictor you install. Good time to change the float to the latest blue one if you don't already have it. FWIW.
