Default Rollbar Paint

So the builder of my RV12 clearly didn't properly prep the rollbar for paint and it's flaking off. I don't have a paint sprayer and don't really want to pay a painter $$$$ to make it look better..

What do you guys think? Do you think I would have any luck with taping everything off, sand it down and clean it really well, and then spray primer and paint from a rattle can? Give me an idea of what I (inexperienced painter) could do to make this look better and not break the bank.. Or will I probably just make it look worse and should just leave it alone?

Thanks!

One option is to sand it down and cover it with some vinyl. Like carbon fiber look, etc.

Mask everything around it.

Sand it down to remove the flaking paint and any rust.

If you have everything really well masked, spray prime it, if not, prime it with a foam roller or brush and an appropriate primer.

Then, either vinyl wrap it or paint it the same way you primed it.

Default Vinyl

Agree. Sand it and vinyl wrap it.
Prep for paint won't be a big job but masking everything and removing the canopy is a lot of work. Overspray will go everywhere and possibly damage the canopy.
Cabon fiber vinyl would look cool!

If you have the original-style Lexan rear window be extra careful that you do not allow any solvents or harsh cleaning chemicals near the raw cut edge of the Lexan -- crazing may result.
