WTB RV-8 wings

I had a friend who last week, hit a bird and now he has a big hole in his leading edge, and a bent spar. This is making it not cost effective to repair, but to just replace the wing.

He is looking for a complete, unassembled wing and fuel tank. Will be interested in a right wing, or both right and left wing set.

He would also consider working with someone who has a set of wings that are not assembled, and are sitting around and would be interested in giving him the wings, and he would order and prepay shipping a new set to be delivered when they are ready to ship from Van’s. This is a chance to get a new set for your project.

Do you know if he’s got the original wings or the -1 wings? My hangar neighbor may have some original wings with the 1inch (as opposed to 1.25 inch) spar capstrips.

and a bent spar

Gee, what kinda bird was that, ostrich-like or bigger?

My friend bought a set of wings from a response here and he wanted to say, “Thanks.”

He also said I could post a picture of the wing. It is amazing the damage a wing can take from a bird and get you on the ground safely. It bent the spar, and bent and cracked the right aileron bell crank. As a result of the bent spar, it pushed back the outboard aft of the fuel tank, opening it up a little resulting in a fuel leak.

BTW, that feather stuck in the wing is from the bird strike, and was not put in after landing.

Wow !! What kind and size bird and at what speed and altitude was he flying? I've had 2 bird strikes in 4 decades flying and both were while flying for a living but thank God have never had that much damage.
