Seat Rib Fluting

Hey folks, on page 26-03 Step 3 the instructions state to flute the lower flanges of the seat ribs in-between the holes called out. As far as I have measured the holes are already aligned with each other, so what is the purpose of the fluting? How much should I be fluting in-between these holes? Thanks!

Those ribs are formed with a slight curve in that section. The aft section is flat. You simply have to flute to keep the edge straight in the forward section. Line the holes up with the bottom skin to check. Mine took very little fluting.

On the 01415's you will dimple to follow the curve of the skin edge.

Just did that yesterday. Position the seat rib on the bottom skin where it belongs and you will see that fluting is required in order for the holes to follow the curve in the hole pattern on the skin. Not difficult to do once you understand the task.
