Aerobatics and T-Routes

First, I am not an attorney and I am not giving any legal advice with this post.

A while back, Daveflier asked if T-Routes were Federal Airways in regard to 14CFR 91.303, requiring 4nm distance from centerline, while performing aerobatics. At the time he asked, I replied that they were Federal Airways, but could not locate the reference to support that. Today, I rediscovered that reference.

Here's the argument:

1. 14CFR 71.1 incorporates by reference FAA Order 7400.11F, which defines airspace and air traffic service routes, thereby making the Order regulatory.

2. On page E1018 of the Order, Section 6008 says, "The Class E airspace areas listed in Sections 6009-6011 are designated as Federal
Airways ..."

Section 6009 = Colored Airways
Section 6010 = VOR Airways
Section 6011 = Area Navigation Routes/T-Routes

So, crystal clear that one needs to give T-Routes the same berth as the other Federal Airways, when in aerobatic flight.

Best regards,

Merrill
