What did you do with your RV this weekend? (8/13-14/2022)

Flipped my wheels to gain a few more landings out of the ole' tires and put a test flight on the work. About 310 landings so far on the wheels.

I went for a nice flight

I keep doing mock check rides to get ready for the real thing. I try to figure a scenario the tester would give me and try and fly it.
I have to say in Michigan it is hard to know what way you are growing. I grew up in the foothills of California (O61) and with the Sierra's and Costal Mts, you always knew where you were. There is NOTHING in central MI you can use to know what direction you are flying!!

I am having fun though. Here is a short video of my takeoff from KTEW on a cross country. You will see - it all looks the same!

As I too often say, not MY RV, but . . .

I was working on the IFR upgrade to my plane in Maryland. I looked out to the taxiway and said, "Self, that stopped RV-12 does not look to be at the right (or, more properly, correct) angle!"

It seems one of the rentals from the local flight school had a flat tire on landing. The pilot opted to exit the runway, and then immediately pulled off the taxiway into the grass to allow another plane to pass, and was at a loss as to what to do next. Sunday and all, no help from the flight school phone numbers listed for just such an occurrence.

So, I drove out, talked to him a bit, and remembered seeing a wheel dolly in the big maintenance hangar, which I have access to. I retrieved the wheel dolly, and, thankfully, LIGHT SPORT! I used my back on the wing spar and got the flat tire high enough that the rental pilot could slide the dolly underneath. Then the two of us pushed it back to it's hangar.

My hope is that I have built up a bit of airplane Karma to keep me safe for a while. :)

What I did

Repainting after damage repairs from OSH.

Moved our RV-heavy to new home

Capt Sandy and I have been homeless vagabonds for the past five years or so. We bought a lot at Hensley Airpark about two and a half years ago. Ground breaking for house and hangar was February this year. We have been “local” to the area for months, staying in our Airstream at a nearby campground. Water into the hangar and septic were completed recently so Friday we moved our RV-heavy into our new hangar. Extension cord for electricity.

Hard to describe how HAPPY we are to awaken in the morning at our airpark home. Looking forward to completion of hangar and house.

Saturday we flew to Delaware Airpark (33N) and spent the weekend with granddaughters and their parents. Got a pop up IFR clearance on the way back.

Regards,

No pic, but landed well and turned into the taxiway, and had a right main go flat. Broke my wheel pant, but I recognized it right away. Never had a flat in 22 yrs of flying. Not my home airport and had a bunch of challenges. Luckily I carried a spare new tube.

Went to Ram Falls

Saturday morning took a 40 min hop from Springbank (CYBW) to a nice little strip at a Provincial Park; Ram Fall. Beautiful flight out, shared lunch with some nice folks from the flying club and shook our kidneys out on the way home in the mid-afternoon in the foothills on 30C day!

A little 10-ship with friends!

Shook off some rust and experienced my largest formation to date.

Much fun!

(finally getting a chance to catch up with VAF for a moment)
Displayed Falsi-Fighter with some of the other EAA Chapter 194 guys at the PTK Open House and Air Show. Was so glad for the opportunity to break free and attend this event; like OSH I've been looking forward to the chance for many years. Great location, great weather, great crowds, great fans and followers and great company with the Yankee Air Museum aircraft.

Extended Weekend Trip

Monday is still technically the weekend if you play hooky from work to go flying :D

My son needed to go to Long Island, NY to pick up a car he bought and asked if I would take him. Why not I thought, I've always wanted to fly the Hudson River Skyline tour.

We had a great flight. I highly recommend you take this flight if you get the opportunity!

Being on flight following with NYC approach before entering the area made it real easy. An extra set of eyes helped but it was a piece of cake compared to the Fisk arrival last month!

Sorry if you had to wait on hold for tech support on Monday while I was out goofing off. Please don't tell Greg. ;)

Nice pictures thanks Tony! I am missing those views. Back in the days I was flying this route couple three times a week :)
