EAA Chapter 91 will host the RV1 at the Lee's Summit Municipal Airport (KLXT) on May 29 as part of the Tour of the West. See www.rv-1.org for other tour stops/itinerary.

KC Flight/EAA Chapter 91 pilots Bill Gill (RV7) and Keith Schult (RV6A) will fly escort for the RV1 as it makes its way to KLXT via fuel stops in Illinois and Moberly, MO the morning of the 29th.

We'll spend the afternoon talking RVs and shooting photos of local/transient RVs next to "The One."

We also plan a late afternoon/early evening ground "formation" photo of all available RVs on the ramp at KLXT, followed by a BBQ dinner at 6:30pm in our main chapter hangar. The RV1 pilot for this leg of the tour is Bob Mills; we've asked Bob to give a short dinner talk about flying the RV1.

Dinner is catered, so please contact me via PM, email or phone (816) 956-1887 with your entree selection (smoked chicken, pulled pork, or some of each) not later than Thursday, May 24 so we can get the portions right. Cost will be $12 per person and the menu also includes slaw, beans, bread, beverage (iced tea/lemonade or soft drinks) and cookies for dessert.

The One will depart Lee's Summit on the morning of May 30 headed west to Kansas and Colorado, again escorted by Bill Gill.

Great plane on an historic tour before donation to the EAA museum, great company, great food-what better excuse do you need to fly to KC?

See you at KLXT on the 29th!
Mike

(MO) RV-1 Tour Stop Update

As of this morning we're up to 40 attendees confirmed for the BBQ at 6:30pm on May 29 at KLXT-still plenty of room for more, so keep the emails coming.

See you there!

(MO) RV1 Tour Stop-Lees Summit Update

We're up to 50 reservations for the BBQ dinner on Tuesday, May 29. Still plenty of room for more...but I need to let the caterer know before the weekend how many are coming, so please email/PM me by tomorrow night with your menu choice (smoked chicken or pulled pork).

Sequence of events for Tuesday:
8:20-9:30am: Fuel stop at Lacon, IL (C75); KLXT escorts join RV1

11:00-12:00: Fuel stop at Moberly, MO (MBY).

Approx 1pm: RV1 arrives at KLXT with escorts. Refuel/maint as needed.

1:30pm-5pm: Individual photo opportunities, hangar flying, flying, etc. with RV1 slide show on the screen at EAA 91 "Eagle" hangar (blue hangar adjacent to the terminal parking lot). Hangar tours of other EAA 91 hangars available.

5-6pm: Group/ground formation photos of the RV1 together with other planes on the ramp adjacent to the EAA 91 "Eagle" hangar. I've got a bucket truck lined up so we should be able to get some great angles and should have time to change the "formation" if/as needed.

6:30: BBQ dinner in the "Eagle" hangar. $12 at the door, but reservations required (see above). Menu includes smoked chicken/pulled pork, beans, slaw, iced tea/lemonade/soft drinks and cookies for dessert. This is a fundraiser (on a small scale) for "Friends of the RV1" so any proceeds will be donated; we'll also have a donation jar available for individual contributions. Bob Mills will talk about flying the RV1 and we'll continue to socialize until we get tired!

NOTE: if the weather won't permit outdoor photos, we'll do photos in the hangar.

The RV1 will depart KLXT on Wed, May 30 enroute to CO via fuel stops in KS; KLXT escorts to McPherson, KS (MPR).

See you there!
Mike

P.S. It looks like we'll have all models represented except the RV12...anyone? anyone?

Next stop...

A quick thread hi-jack... the next stop will be at McPherson KS (KMPR) on the morning of the 30th. If some of you from central or western KS can't make it to Lees Summit to see "The One", please join us on Wednesday for its fuel stop in McPherson!

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

(MO) RV1 Tour Stop Update

We're up to 75 attendees registered for the BBQ dinner out of a max of 85. So...I've got ten dinners available...these will go first come, first served based on time of email/PM/phone call (816-956-1887) between now and Tuesday. Looks like a sellout over the weekend if the emails and calls keep coming in!

Weather is also looking great for the central Midwest on Tuesday (as of Saturday P.M.) so it looks like we'll have every model of RV on the field...including guests from IA (RV9A), KS (several), NE (RV12), and TX (RV3 aka "Tsam" via MN).

See you Tuesday!

Mike

(MO) RV1 Reception-KLXT May 29

Weather is looking great for Tues so it looks like "Tsam" will be able to join "The One" and our KLXT escorts at the Moberly, MO fuel stop.

Once "Tsam" joins up we'll have four escorts (RV3, RV6A, RV7, and RV8) for the arrival at Lee's Summit (approx 1 pm).

The first 75 dinners sold quickly so I requested ten more this morning from the caterer...When these are gone, they're gone-so email or PM to reserve a seat for the Tues night BBQ (6:30pm at the EAA Chapter 91 "Eagle" Hangar).

We'll also have iced tea, soft drinks and ice cream available during the afternoon photo sessions.

Participants are welcome to relax in our air conditioned meeting room and see photos of "The One" from its original Stitts Playboy configuration through the restoration process, etc. or do some local flying while waiting for dinner. Hangar tours of our EAA 91 hangars are also available.

Afternoon photo sessions will wrap up with a ground "formation" shot on the ramp at KLXT at approx 5pm. Bucket truck and several photographers plan to be on site.

See you here!

Best,
Mike
