Getting it started.

Me? Nothing. So many extra paper routes in the sim over the last six days I'm seeing crooked. Five more this coming week. I miss my RV....

Out playing with smoke!

Minneapolis out & back

The "vaccination celebration tour" continued Friday with an out and back trip to Minneapolis to see family & friends. A beautiful day of flying over the Mighty Mississippi as well as some cool solar farms. The selfie was taken as I passed the 100 hour mark in the time machine...the RV grin is still evident. Next on the tour...Florida!

Flew up to Bridger Montana for the first time. This marks the first time the RV has been to a new state! :D

Also the first time on a smaller runway. 3400' x 42' Certainly not small by RV standards but it is small compared to everything around here!

Eat Mo Pork

Keith N325KS and I flew to KFYE, hung out with 50 or more of like interest ala VANS RV, and enjoyed a smoked pork lunch.

How about the last two weekends?

On the 17th we flew from N Florida (FL10) out west to do the national parks with a stop at Roswell to see... well you know. Anyway, from there to Flagstaff and rented a car, then off to the Grand Canyon for three days, then flew to Moab to see the Arches, Canyonlands, Zion Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Capitol Reef. Then we flew on Friday April 30th to Carlsbad to see the Caverns, and finally on Saturday flew home. Great trip, but **** flying weather most of the way in both directions. Incidentally, If you're going to see Canyonlands, make sure to do it before seeing the Grand Canyon!

Would love to see some pictures. Sounds like a great trip.

Some say if there are no pictures, it didnt happen? (Just joking)

Another Weekend - Another Pilots N Paws Mission

So this is #20 for me. Bruce was the subject of a 4 leg transport from Crystal River, FL (KCSG) to Lamoni, IA (KLWD). I flew the 2nd leg from Dublin, GA (KDBN) to Savannah, TN (KSNH). Long day for Bruce!

I've been asked before if I ever have any trouble carrying dogs in the baggage area this way. The answer up until today has been no. Bruce is a sweet senior dog (about 10) but he has a few issues. He was interested in looking outside the first 20 minutes or so, but then he wanted some attention from me. He tried sticking his nose under my arm, poking me in the back of my head, nipping or licking my shoulder, and tried (unsuccessfully) to come up front with me. At some point he got frustrated and started tearing up the dog bed I had for him on the baggage floor. He also removed everything from the seat back pockets including the fire extinguisher!

Fortunately, he did seem to understand the word NO - although not for very long. He did finally settle down and lay down during the last 10 minutes or so of the flight while I was landing (a good time to do that!).
Could have used a Co-pilot/dog wrangler today!

Pulled the prop 3 weeks ago for an overhaul. Started the annual condition inspection today and the prop should be back this week, so I hope to be back in the air by the end of the week.

Not a thing!

Flew the work airplane to Mexico for the weekend. Planning a trip for next weekend though.

Still in phase 1 for me. Flew to 2K9 for breakfast Saturday morning and flew about 45 minutes yesterday afternoon. About 2 1/2 hrs tt.

Flew with my wife to KLZU for the EAA 690 monthly pancake breakfast. Nice morning flight and made some new friends. Great turnout.

Tear down for condition inspection here. It will be back together by next weekend. You can cover a lot of ground with two people working 6-8hrs per day.

Tanya found the first bolt to be ejected from the engine, but it didn't escape the premises. It was captured by the nose gear gusset. "Hey, is this bolt important?" (1" long coarse thread 1/4" drilled head) It actually took me a few minutes to find where it came from. Long enough to comment "It must be a spare." B&C alternator bracket mount to the case, captured (or not so well) with the bent tab thingy (not a fan). Those two bolts now have suspenders in the form of some safety wire.

C/S Prop off and back on with a new alternator belt which was highway robbery ($$) at the local auto parts store. I'm still loving the SDS intake tube flange/gasket solution. No leaks! #3 CHT probe replaced. Replaced the Lightspeed manifold sensor tubing. Bird strike dent status, yep, still there with no change. Right step crack, yep still there, no change.

At least that is the report from my side of the house (firewall). We've resolved to do better at wearing out the tires and brakes this year.

My dream plane!

Had the opportunity to meet a friend clearing customs in Hamilton, Ontario after leaving Florida this morning and escorting the plane to it’s new home in Oshawa CYOO.

Not everyday a RV7 and a RV8 get to escort a P51!

Simon Hitchen (C-GCSH) and I met N951HB at CYHM. The P51 is decked out in the RCAF 424 Squadron colours, a former reserve squadron based in Hamilton, Ontario in the 50’s.

What an opportunity! Just love the Mustang.
