I solo'd 41 years ago today but I bet there are a few out there who beat that.
How long has it been for you?

1st supervised solo, Boca Raton, FL, September 3, 1968, 1945 Aeronca 7AC N81663, 5.4 hours.

Back when the earth was cooling :)

February of 1967, Bush Field, Augusta, Georgia, in a Fort Gordon flying club fastback 150, while on active duty.

Best,

June 1967 while home on leave before shipping out to Viet Nam. I was Air Force enlisted but got to log 1.5 hours in the back seat of an OV-10 when I told the pilot I was a new pilot.

July 9th, 1968

Tim's Airpark, Austin, TX.

The Taylorcraft I was learning was wrecked the day I was supposed to solo so a couple days later I solo'd an Alon AirCoupe with 6.9 hours in my new logbook.

Seems like yesterday too! I still remember looking at the empty right seat and laughing out loud. I was a Happy kid!

Great memories:)

What's really neat is I still laugh out loud when just flying around. I still LOVE it.

So far we have 3 in 1967, 2 in 1968, a 1972; kinda makes me feel like a little kid! In '67/68 I wasn't here yet and in '72 was probably working on potty training...

So my 1st solo was 16th birthday, Jan 19, 1985, a wee bit after you guys.

What's really neat is I still laugh out loud when just flying around. I still LOVE it.

Same here after umpteen thousand hours. Was doing a PT-19 checkout a coupla days ago and that airplane just made me giggle. Open cockpit, 200hp Ranger engine, wood prop... fun stuff!

1st solo in a C150 at Stapleton airport in Denver 6/23/1964, only 61 years after the Wright Brothers. Guess I'm dealing with a bunch of kids in this thread!

1/22/70

22nd Jan, 1970 in a Piper Colt at what is now Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

I can still remember how much better it flew on its 85 HP without the weight of the instructor.

1st June, 1969 in a K-13 sailplane at Lasham.

Which one counts?...:)

1st solo Oct .3rd.1942,Luscombe 8A Calkins Field,Spokane,Washington

AWESOME. :)

Mid 70's for me (logbook not handy), IGX (Was W52) **EDIT 6-11-1975**

Why does this thread remind me of the 150 and sled (SR71) story?

You guys are making me feel young! I did not solo until July 15, 1976. I took my private check ride on 7/7/77 how could I go wrong

Makes me feel young again too: November 19, 1977, at KCOF in N3370V, a 1975 C-150. (That's all etched in my memory, no logbook requred.;))

I solo'd July 1, 1976 at Rosamond, CA in a glider. And I am only 25 years old now. My son is about to solo this weekend. I just showed him my shirt the other day.

May 22, 1967 in a Cessna Employees Flying Club C-172. Soloed at Hutchinson, KS. Instructor was one Chuck Hall. Ex RCAF F-86 guy that was flying for Cessna and instructing at the club for grins. I would like to know where he is now.
First Helicopter solo was in October of 1968 at Ft. Wolters, TX. I don't remember the name of the stage field.
Glider solo was June 26, 1976 in a Blanik L-13, N10868 at the Benton, KS gliderport. Instructor was the legendary (at least in S. Central KS.:D) Fay Edwards.

Hat's off to you sir! :)

Johnny, you over-achiever you! Soloed at -12, and have a kid old enough to solo at 25...impressive...most impressive! (Funnin' with ya!) :D

Feeling like a pup here...7/26/79; Tracy, CA; 1967 C-150 3275J (affectionately known as 3275-Junk). Same as others have said...didn't have to look it up, and remember it like it was yesterday! (Wasn't it? ;))

Cheers,
Bob

8/8/88 KTTN

I was a late bloomer, but ya gotta admit it's a cool date :D

I soled in a Beech Sport, the 150 HP, 2 seat version of the Sundowner. Without the instructor I was a pattern altitude about 3/4 of the way down the 6000' runway.

6/26/87 had to look it up but recall exactly getting my pvt ride on 8/19/87...2 days before my birthday. What a great summer that was.

November 16, 1969 at the age of 16 from what was at the time called Donegal Airport, now Donegal Springs Airpark (N71). Flying my fathers 1947 Luscombe 8A, 65 hp. Many years later I would fly my RV6 in there to visit my parents.

Do they still cut off the tail of your shirt and hang it on the wall in the FBO? Remember the days when the wall was full of them? That's Ken Hershey doing the cutting. Ken signed me off for solo the day before. We had just gone up and done 3 spins.

April 1965 in a C-150 at Phillips Field in Fairbanks, AK. That airport is another one of many that have bit the dust since then.

Ok, ok. All you old fogies made me look :). 7/28/1993. I thought I was doing pretty good by still being allowed to fly after twenty years in the air. Hopefully I have as many years of flying ahead of me as many of you have behind you!
