ATC frequency map

Greg Arehart

Well Known Member
Anybody have a link to a downloadable ATC frequency map? I've looked online and unable to find anything (I have seen several maps of the control areas but not frequencies). Seems a useful tool to have in the bag. Too bad they don't include this info on VFR sectionals.

Thanks,
Greg

Center frequencies frequently change depending on workload, time of day, controller discretion, etc.

My trick is to look at the instrument approach plate for the nearest airport. The frequency listed may not be the exact correct one, but they can tell you the right freq.

Trying to listen in, without flight following, is difficult to impossible. Sectors combine or split off too frequently.

On the Garmin GNS430W, you can display the nearest ARTCC - I use that a lot. Not sure if other Garmin units have this capability.

for center, enroute IFR low chart.

Yep! This was a seriously useful discovery during my IFR training several years ago. Given the proliferation of EFBs like Foreflight, even VFR-only pilots can download the IFR-low charts to have this information at their fingertips.

Dynon Skyview has something similar in their map data. Hit NRST button and scroll over to the COM tab and it will show a list of frequencies. Or select a nearby airport and look at their COM frequencies.

Foreflight

I use a feature within ForeFlight all the time. That if you want to know the freq over a particular airport, Tap and hold on a particular airport, select "More" (to the right), then "Details". It'll will give you the App/Dep freq for that area. Then scroll down to Other Frequencies and it'll give you the ARTCC name and freq over that airport.

ATC frequency map - downloadable

Greg,

Didn't find exactly what you were looking for, but came close.

Here's a link to an interactive map of the transmitter sites and frequencies for Salt Lake Center (substitute ZDV for ZLC in the link for Denver Center.
http://air2airshare.com/milaircomms/artcc_transmitter_locations.html?center=ZLC

Here's a map of the center, and a list of the frequencies. Unfortunately, the frequencies are not superimposed on the map like on the enroute IFR low charts.

Here's downloadable info, both in .pdf and .csv files. You have to register and pay for a premium subscription.

Personally, I look at the enroute IFR low chart on https://skyvector.com/ and jot down the frequencies along my route of flight.

My old Garmin 496, (and the 396's also) have all that in their data base. And I haven't even updated it for years, but the freqs are still all good.
