Hallmark Insurance?

Hallmark is a large financial services company that owns the aviation underwriter known as Aerospace Insurance Managers. Aerospace has always been a specialist in low limit, high(er) risk coverage. Single ship flight schools, low time pilots in higher performance complex aircraft, commercial helicpoters, that sort of thing.

I've been out of the biz for a year, but as of that time, they didn't write many RV risks.

My opinion was that they were OK. Great, if you needed them for something that the other guys wouldn't write. Their business model is one of charging high premiums for stuff that other underwriters don't want.

They contract out claims handling, so expect slow service there.

Thanks Jeff, I actually have a very good quote from them, slightly less than I paid last year however that insurance company went out of business. So I am happy with the price and coverage, just wanted to make sure they are a good company. For 150k on my RV10 they are just over 2,000 a year. I paid 2200 last year.

Aerospace is fine. Just pay close attention to the deductibles and any requirements for pilots and CFIs.

Most of the companies farm out claims to third party companies and I don't see any correlation to speed of settlement. Its incorrect, in my opinion, to say that just because they don't have in-house claims means it will be slow. Truth is the actual adjuster is the bigger limiting factor. Some are faster than others regardless of their employer.

I'm actually a big fan of independent adjusters. They are often old-salts that have seen it all. Take Marve Rogie up in NLV for instance. Ain't nothing he hasn't seen. They know whats important from whats trivial, whats an issue and what can be fixed. They act as a nice intermediary between the dollars and the sense.
