Aft deck spacer

Hello all,

Hoping for some help as I assemble the aft deck on the RV6. I've been watching the extremely helpful assembly videos by George Orndorff. He details the aluminum angle spacers that need to be made prior to drilling the 614 aft deck. He mentions that the 3/4 X 3/4 angle that attaches to the 611 bulkhead requires a few notches. I can't figure out where those go.

I can't tell from the drawings either. Should the 3/4 X 3/4 angle be notched so that it sits flush with the top of the longerons? Or should it fit below the longerons with the extra 1/8" being taken up by the 611E spacer?

I'd really appreciate a course correction or maybe a picture!

DWG 34........ REV 12 was after the Orndorff tapes. Install the F611E spacer per plans.

I only have the RV-7A drawings but I'm going to assume the RV-6 is similar since your picture looks similar. I copied a section from the RV-7 drawing.

The lower angle piece is not notched. However it is very critical that you get a tight fit with the longerons. That means radius the ends to fit into the longeron. If you don't have a tight enough fit then you won't have enough edge distance later. I had to redo these on my plane.

I think the notch that was probably being described is in the flat spacer piece (F-711) but I can't be sure. The spacer piece basically brings the surface of the cross support up to the level of the top surface of the longerons so that the aft deck piece (F-714) has a flat surface to mount to. I think the RV-6 is probably the same.

Here's a couple of pictures of that (loose) part on my -6A, which is still in progress.
The only angle that I notched is the main longerons so that the vertical bars can fit.
I think the angle sits below the longerons and the 1/8 inch spacer will then make it flat with the top of the longeron.

Thanks everyone!

This is exactly what I was hoping for. The RV7 drawing make it quite a bit easier to comprehend.

Thanks for the assist.

If you look at the rev-7 drawings it shows a little difference from the 6. I put a flat piece between the top plate and the angle, used it for the elevator down stop. And another at the rear for the up stop. Sorry no pics but very similar to the 7.
