Micro-Stop Cage Rebuild

My micro-stop cage was behaving erratically, so I took it apart and found a bearing that looked like the attached image.

I decided to attempt to rebuild it and posted the details on my build log here:

The bearing I used was McMaster P/N 7806K64.

I have not used my rebuilt cage extensively, so time will tell how it holds up.

well, shouldn’t happen on good quality tooling... had one those ATS cheapies bought in 1986 (...), and the Chinese balls were kinda soft (...), the resulting oblong countersinks leading to VS #3 whilst building the -4

And that was the day I decided to buy top quality tooling only ;)

I bought some used ones from fleabay, and they were all gritty and unusable. Less that 10 minutes each and I had them like new again! The bearings didn’t seem damaged, but they were dried up and crusty. I thought they were needle bearings in mine, but they might have been balls. Whatever they were, they weren’t captured, and I had to make sure I got all of them back in there with a drop of oil!
