New Texas Build - tax rules?

Hi all

I have a question regarding the build as I plan my finances: how/what does Texas tax the build? Is it something I need to do during the build (when receiving kit), or something to worry about at the end (once registered /flown)?

If you plan on claiming one of the exemptions MAKE SURE you do what you need to do BEFORE you buy the aircraft because there are few cases I read on the comptroller's website where buyers got the required paperwork AFTER buying the aircraft and the state declined their exemption and made them pay even after going all the way to the Supreme Court.

Vans will calculate and add Texas sales tax to each kit you purchase from them. I am sure if you contact them they would be happy to get you an exact figure, but 8.25% is probably a safe number for planning purposes.

And follow on question. When registering once build complete - are there any other taxes or fees required. It looks like it’s just a $5 fee with all the appropriate forms. But just want to confirm there aren’t any surprises.
