Failing Rear Bulkheads on RV-3

During inspection, we found rivets smoking and pulling away from the two rear bulkheads. I understand this is a known problem and the future RVs doubled up these bulkheads.

It is indeed. I installed doubled bulkheads back there in 2016, after learning about this. Here the fuselage is shown upside down still in the jig.



It wasn't easy. I needed to rebend the flanges to get the skins to fair smoothly and add some shims. Eventually it all fit, though.

As far as I know, this is the first time this issue has gotten publicized, and your photos are excellent.

I sent the pics to Vans. Hopefully they can suggest a fix. Doubling up the bulkheads at this point would be challenging.
