Hey Guys,

Selling my MTV-12 propeller. TTSN is about 950 hrs and TTSOH is about 800 hrs. Last overhaul was at Tiffeney Aire in 2011. Really good shape, no oil leaks and spent 750hrs from new on a 180hp RV-7a. I bought it in November for my IO-360 A1A, RV-7 and put about 40hrs on it. I have a 200hp, non-counterweight crank and the MTV-12 is not ideal for my engine and MT recommends the MTV-9. I've had no issues with the propeller and its smooth across the power settings and even certified with the IO-360 A1A/Mooney M20J combination. Everybody knows how hard it is to find a non-counterweight crank, 200HP + engine combo outside of Hartzell BA 2 blade. The BA is a good prop but I wanted 3 blade with speed. For those interested, the last picture is a prototype propeller that I've been looking for. Its a new design by Whirlwind propeller called the 330 series, I believe basically a beefed up 300 series hub and HRT blades. I'll let Whirlwind announce it but I'll post a review later. Initial testing is incredible across the power ranges both vertical and top speed. Anyway, the MT-12-B is a great propeller however not for the non-counterweight cranks at 200+ hp. Hmmm, I have an IO360-M1B on my RV7 with a hartzel 2 blade CS prop that needs an overhaul because it’s leaking grease. It’s a good prop with only 680 hours but I wonder if the MT would be better. How much to overhaul the MT? The hartzel is due after 10years I assume the MT is also?

MT's calendar year recommendation is every 6 yrs, however most I've talked to are doing IRAN, especially if the prop has been hangered entire life. The overhauls seem to run around 4-5K dependent on shop and IRAN seemed to be about 1.5K. Hope that helps answer your question.

Found this discussion under "propellers" within the last couple days. Great explanation on using the MT MTV-12 on the 160-180HP engines only.
