Gap between rudder and fairing

Merry Christmas, everyone! Hoping I can get some opinions on this...

Working on finishing an RV-10 tail kit I bought from another builder, I decided to tackle the rudder fairing. After trimming everything to fit I noticed that there is a noticeable gap in the front where the skin is bent around the counterweight:

Since the rudder was skinned when I got it I didn't have the change to test fit the fairing. Now, beyond the cosmetic issue I doubt this should stay this way since it's a great place for water to ingress. So, how to fix? I'm thinking the easiest would be to fill the gap with some composite and sand it down to smooth the curve (and, of course, match the v-stab fairing to this). I could also see relocating the counterweight screw through the use of a doubler plate and squeezing the skins closer together.

Thoughts?

Slice the fairing along the centerline, and widen it to fit the rudder. It's only fiberglass.
