Forward baggage compartment or hold down?

I was considering perhaps modifying the plate over my forward battery/fuel pump tunnel to accommodate a soft sided duffel bag or backpack, if just so it doesn’t have to go in the back when CG constrained. I was thinking perhaps just some netting or bungee cords attached to the top plate to hold things in place and save weight when not used. The other alternative would be to actually fabricate side panels to form an actual compartment.

Of course the two major concerns that come to mind would be space for my legs and security of the cargo so it can’t slide and interfere with the pedals or the fuel selector and stick.

Anyone done something similar?

I used velcro and put my claw tie down bag between my ankles. Worked great over several hundred hours.

Forward Baggage

I use a motorcycle tank bag. They come with non slip rubber on the bottom to prevent scratching the motorcycle tanks paint. Mine doesn’t move in flight even in hard turbulence.
