Default Sender full deflection gauge reads 11 gallons

Had a minor fuel access plate leak on right fuel tank. Pulled plate and sender and troubleshooting sender problem. Fuel Gauge doesn’t go above 11gallons when at full deflection of float. Tested sender out of tank. Will probably swap gauges to narrow down if it’s gauge or sender. Anyone else have this problem? Also-does Van’s still sell fuel gauges? Thanks!

I suspect after reassembly the float arm is now hitting something in the tank preventing full travel.

They do go bad. I've had to replace one in 13 years.

I think the replacement is at https://shop.vansaircraft.com/cgi-bi...&product=f-385

Perhaps need to put a lazy "Z" in the lateral arm to pull the float back from structure. Since most no longer use the thick Neoprene gasket, the pro sealed in floats are moved inboard a bit, and sometimes contact structure. Also, make sure the float is on the bottom of the wing skin when fully "down". That way it can read the fuel level at the top of the arm, however, due to dihedral, one cannot measure fuel level for the top 3-5 gallons.
