An RV-15 Teaser
The forecast is for a major storm this week so I seized on a short notice picnic in the backcountry. I invited Vlad but believe it or not he is on a real non-flying vacation.
We left Pagosa Springs, Co, rounded the La Platas near Durango and flew up the Co Ut border to Gateway Co. approx 1.5 hrs each way.
Dolores Point is just west of Gateway at 7200 ft. The strip was in great condition, albeit the most slope I’ve encountered so far.
Mark Guenin took the photos from his Glastar. Ted Waltman joined us in his Outlaw III from north of Monroe’s.
The airport at the end is Telluride.
Enjoy

Pilot Mtn NC
went for a cruise to check the burned area around Pilot Mountain. TFR topped out at 3500 so I made sure to be well above that. No action anyway, no sign of anything still burning.
1000+ acres burned. Apparently someone was camping in an undesignated spot and left a campfire. NC is in a pretty serious drought right now, particularly in the Piedmont area. Statewide burn ban etc. Inexcusable, really criminal, to do something like this.

Fantastic Flying RV Weekend on the East Coast
The flying weather on the east coast this weekend – Dec 4-5 – was exceptionally good: light winds, clear skies, smooth air, outstanding visibility, a little cool but not cold. The RVs at Essex Skypark took full advantage both days. On Saturday three of us flew down Delmarva (Delaware-Maryland-Virginia) peninsula to Jamestown Airport then to Suffolk Airport for lunch. We flew back up barrier islands on the Delmarva peninsula. On Sunday we had seven planes (4 RVs) fly up the Jersey Coast, then Hudson River corridor to Sky Acres Airport and restaurant, then back. Here are a few of the many good shots that were taken.

Nice flight to KACK for the Christmas Stoll
I took my bride to rub shoulders with the billionaires out at Nantucket this weekend for the 47th annual Christmas Stroll. It was her first ride in the RV with the new engine and prop - she approved! As mentioned in a previous post, the wx was spectacular this weekend for December flying in the North East. Overall a terrific day of enjoyment with the RV. Next time I go to KACK, I'll have to bring my jet!
