AOG
It drives me nuts with the comments that start with "I don't know anything about it but here's my advice". That and the JB Weld and other absolutely insane repairs. You have to realize many of these people have no skin in the game and just get in the way of people truly trying to help.
Being stranded is no reason to attempt a stupid repair. Better to be late than dead.

Here's an idea and I'll be the first to step up. How about a list of helping hands around the country. If someone is AOG before casting the net on VAF they could look up this list and see if anyones available to help them out in that local area. It might not be with advice and repair but perhaps a spare bedroom or hot meal and transportation. I have a hanger full of tools and would gladly help up to my level of expertise if I could. Of course this depends on the helpers availability too.... work or out of town family obligations etc. At the very least with a phone call the helping hand, familiar and connected locally, might be able to point someone in the right or best direction.
Maybe have a dedicated thread about this or dr could make something handy for all. I would say that a current phone number is very important. No emails etc. Who knows when someone might happen to check their emails.... I never think about that.... mostly spam anyway. This would not be the RV hotel kind of thing.... just a starting point to help fellow RV'ers out of a jam.
AOG in Foley, Fairhope or Gulf Shores Alabama

We already have the RV hotel list but I think the list of people willing to help would be huge! Great idea IMO

It's a variant of this:
OP: I have X installed, and need to know Y. Can someone help?
Response: You should have installed Z. X sucks. If you had installed Z, then you would do the following things...

I'm beginning to see how Scott Adams got his original inspiration for "Dilbert".

Funny aside, "AOG" is the Tacan and NDB Idents at NAS Rota, Andalusia Spain, a GREAT place to be AOG for a spell.

Can confirm, jet was broke for a week at Rota. Great place to be stuck!

Help requested,help granted
Had to chyme in and give my experience with VAF.
I have been ?AOG? a few times, but the one time I requested help through VAF, I was welcomed by many members, many of whom I have never spoken to before in a place as far away from home as I could?ve been. I am extremely grateful to Doug Reeves and the members here on VAF.
If given the chance I will help anyone in need many times over.
And to all the dousch bags on this site, well hopefully you change.
Safe flying.
