RV-3 Placards and Identification plates

My RV3 was repainted before I got it and I am putting on the N-numbers
and ID plates that came with the airframe. There are two metal plates around 2 by 3 inches. One has only Make. Model, Serial #, and engine
model that goes on the rear under the horizonal. The other is slightly
larger and also has builder name/info. Where should this one go. It looks
like it may have been mounted on turtle deck just behind the box type
roll bar. This surface is curved and the already drilled holes don't fit the
new plate. Could it go on the back of the roll/bar box?
Also I have two large experimental decals about 18 inches long with 2 inch
letters. I would like to use only one if possible and where should I place it.

Thanks

That second plate is not required at all. You may put it anywhere you want or leave it off.
Only one required is make, model, and serial number on the outside rear of the fuselage. Must be "fireproof."

BTW as you may or may not know, you can add an "X" after the "N" in the N-number and leave off the "Experimental" placard. And the N-numbers may be as small as 2". ref. 45.22(b).

Thanks I will just leave it off. I wanted to use the smaller plate on the tail
so I can use the same holes as the old plate. As for the experimental my N
numbers are already in place so I will probably use the decal somewhere.
I am thinking about under the canopy on the fuselage so you step over it
getting into the plane or maybe on the top of left wing near the root end.
The other issue is the fuel tank placards. The engraved caps are nice but
I am in kind of a hurry and was wondering what other options I have in the way of decals.

Thanks

Fuel tank fillers need to indicate Minimum fuel grade and capacity. There is no requirement as to the method of placarding.

On the fuel placards I am just going to temporary use a marking pen and
later send them to Steve at A.S. and have them engraved. Last nite I started
marking my airspeed indicator and not sure about what to do. I read the
build manual and got some good info. I put a redline at 215mph for never
exceed. Should I have green from stall to max maneuvering speed of 132mph then yellow from 132 to 215? Also how do I mark the 100mph for
flap deployment?

Thanks
Jim Miller

Are you sure that VNE is 215 mph? I think it should be 210.
Maneuvering speed is typically marked with a blue radial line.
Caution range, smooth air cruising, (yellow arc) is from 180 mph to VNE.
Flap range (white arc) is from stall to 100 mph.
I don't have all the speeds for the -3 but these are for the -4 and I believe they are the same.

BTW, if you are putting the markings on the glass, don't forget to add an anti-rotation "tick" mark going across the glass and bezel. This is similar to torque seal idea. It shows if the glass has rotated. I usually suggest that the red line be extended across the bezel.

Thanks for taking the time to answer all these questions. I re-checked the
manual and it does say 215 but this was early and van could have decided to
lower. The difficulty i am having putting on these spagetti-like tapes makes
precision so low it may be on 210 anyway. I will look and see if i have any
blue tape for the man. speed marking.

Thanks
Jim Miller
