What does success look like? Vans intersection fairings

I have searched the site pretty thoroughly about the intersection fairings for my RV7. I bought the Vans intersection fairings for a starting point and I really don't mind the fiberglass work.

But, it's always nice to see someones chronicle about how they got from the flimsy starting point to a satisfactory result. I really haven't been able to find that story like I usually do here on the site.

....they look like you might sand off about 3/8" all around just for starters
.....they measured .030, how many layer should be added?
......is there any other shaping that makes it easier or better looking?

Any pictures or links to success with Vans intersection fairings would be greatly appreciated.
