Experience with Evans Fuel Tanks Anyone?

Hi Folks!

I'm inclined to have my 7A fuel tanks done by a specialist (Evans is the only one I know about), but I would love to get some feedback from this expert forum. I'm doing the slooowww build, but the one exception that I'm willing to permit myself is that of the fuel tanks. (Yeah, I could do it, but I'm beyond behind schedule, and if I got a leaker, that would compound my schedule lapses.)

I did check through the earlier threads (there are good ones from 06 and 07), but I'd like to learn more if there is additional knowledge to be gained.

First, to the Evans customers, how did you like the product? Any and all comments welcomed.

Next, are there any other similar fuel tank specialists out there that I might consider?

Finally, any comments related to the farming-out of fuel tanks invited.

Thanks all ! - - Tom in Sacramento.

Hands...

down Evans will be the way to go, also priced right, will take some time so plan ahead and you will not have a leaky tank! :D I've built tanks and will no more... It's not hard, just dirty work!

He built a pair for me.
I was very happy, no leaks.
Do plan on some time for him to do them, I think it is a part time thing for him.
I would do it again.
Good Luck.

Almost Happy

I had my -9A tanks made by Evan when VAN's replied to my QB Tanks order by saying they wouldn't be able to provide them (that was in early 2007).
Barb indicated Evan as an alternate QB Tanks builder and I was pleased by the way the tanks looked when I received them.
The only glitch I discovered last July when I finally got to the point of attaching the tanks to my SB wing was that he attached the three inner Z-Brackets in the wrong direction on both tanks.
This was easily fixed by attaching an aluminum angle in order to bring some metal in front of the spar holes.
So, just remind him to double check the plans and the Z-brackets orientation, he'll know where the message comes from ;)

Another option...

..is Jack Thompson in Tucson.

He used to run Custom Aircraft Builders in Avra Valley (now Marana) and built many early, non-pre-punched entire RVs.

Just watching him do the sheet metal work on a YAK under repair at our airpark was a treat and an education.

Due to the present economy he no longer works for Evergreen, and is available for any RV related work.

He is at 520-818-3822 (520-419-1407 cell)

PS - he does know of this posting...

I heard Evan was no longer doing tanks--Did I hear wrong?

Anyway, the tanks aren't really as hard as you might think. I suggest doing them yourself unless you have plenty of money to burn.
