There's 2 pins connected on the internally regulated alternator as well. The field wire comes out and goes to your field power supply, the sense pin is connected to the field wire. Even though it's internally regulated, you still have an external sense pin in case you want to sense battery voltage instead of alternator output voltage. Most people just leave it jumped and don't worry about the 0.1-0.2 volt drop between alternator and battery.

It is not like that. That appears to be a Molex-style molded plug. The one PP uses is more of a WeatherPack Denso OEM type connector as shown in the attached photos. You can see the little red silicon seals/strain relief inserts in the photo of the wire side of the plug. Those were missing from the original plug in our PP alternator kit.

Talking Solutions Abound

Thanks all...

Yes, this is the "three prong" connector. (I have yet to upload pictures here... I need to grow up).

Recapping:

- Jump # 3 and #2. They connect to field switch.
- #1 to (optional) "alt fail light".

- This alt has internal regulator.

- Pigtail from spruce for $100 plus, or auto parts (amazon) varieties, $10-20.

And the PDF install manual(s) actually are all available. Needed to cross reference model number as read off the data plate to Hartzell's list. This required a call to Hartzell Eng Tech folks. Very responsive.

As for actually downloading the PDF from Hartzell, previously I could not access via safari. I had to download and use google chrome. (because we wouldn't want to be excluded from big brothers behavioral data base :-)

Love this group..

Now, launching a new thread to get air/oil separator opinions from the braintrust..
